Friday Opening

Le Festival 2019 will be launched on Friday night, but this will not be just any opening. This year, French officials will kick off the night with a very special ceremony that will make this an opening night to remember! The festivities will then continue into the night with an entertainment line-up that is sure to have something for everyone to enjoy!

For the special part of this year’s opening night, at 5:30pm, the Official Opening will commence on the stage, with a Legion D’Honneur (Legion of Honour) presentation to the Honorable Consul Lady Jane Edwards. This will be followed by Anthems by Opera Queensland, speeches from French Consul Nicolas Croizier, the French Ambassador Christophe Penot, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and some other important guests, and the La Belle Alliance re-enactment group fire demonstration.

After such a memorable opening, Can-Can dancers – a festival favourite – will kick and twirl their way onto the stage to delight the audience with their whimsy. At 6:15pm, Le Festival will welcome Sydney-based Ben Noir and his male cabaret act, which will be sure to tease and please. This will be followed by the Brisbane-based world-folk-jazz band Estampa at 7:30 pm. From 8:30pm, the night will conclude with a bang as DJ Orelee whisks guests away to France, bringing to the stage the music of Jeff Cortez, the official DJ of Le Queen club in Paris.

The entertainment program for Friday night is set to be a great one, and that is just the beginning. You wouldn’t want to miss this night full of glamour and style from France right here in Brisbane, would you?

Le Festival - Brisbane French Festival Entertainment Ben Noir

Ben Noir

Le Festival - Brisbane French Festival Entertainment Ben Noir

Ben Noir caught an early break as a Featured Acrobat in Baz Luhmann’s Moulin Rouge. In his off-screen life, he subsequently moved to Paris, worked his way from street performance, via a plethora of obstacles, to some of the most (in)famous cabaret and burlesque stages in the world. He teams up with comedic accordionist Paolo Campanari Brancondi and the fabulous Du Barry Dancers, to present Ben Noir: A French Cabaret.

Ben dazzled our embassy guests with his fabulously flamboyant show, capturing the best of Australia’s humour, colour and talent. Ben was inspired by France and the French love him back. With his stunning flute-like vocals and his ability to sing Non Je Ne Regrette Rien while maintaining a perfect handstand, this is a cabaret show like no other!
